mild familial exudativevitreoretinopathy in the lefteye,but the mild vascular changes are in the far periphery, well separated fromthehamartoma,andtheareathatdevelopedthe lesionwas fully vascularized and free ofmacroscopic damageor other inciting primary pathology. Wecannot, of course, completelydiscount the influenceof familialexudativevitreoretinopathyaspresumedglobalwntsignaling aberrations, which, although unlikely, may have altered the timing of the hamartomatous growth. Additionally, wedonot infer that all combinedhamartomas are acquired; in considering the series by Shields et al,3 it is more likely that a hamartomaina2-week-oldpatientwas indeedpresentatbirth.4 In summary,we report a presumedcombinedhamartoma thatwas acquired after birth in a childwhose fellow eye’s presentation allowed incidental observation of its development.
